RATIONALE

The Diploma in Business Administration offered by Brimur College is designed to equip students with essential skills and knowledge to pursue a successful career in business management. In today’s competitive market, businesses require professional management to remain efficient and adaptable. This diploma addresses the existing gap in providing specialized business training at the diploma level, preparing students to meet the evolving needs of the labor market.

This comprehensive program blends theoretical knowledge with practical experience, enabling students to navigate the complexities of modern business environments. It is structured to provide a strong foundation in management principles, while also addressing the specific challenges faced by various sectors in the business world. With a focus on hands-on learning, this course is aimed at producing graduates who are ready to contribute effectively to the business industry.

COURSE STRUCTURE AND DURATION

The program is divided into two semesters, each lasting six months.
Students will take a total of 16 course units.
Each course unit consists of 45 contact hours.
The program will be completed in one calendar year.
A research project is required, contributing two course units.
Students must complete the program within a maximum of three years (equivalent to six semesters).
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria to be eligible for admission:

KCSE Mean Grade C- with D+ in Mathematics, Commerce, Economics, Accounts, or a related subject and D+ in English or Kiswahili.
KCE Division II with a pass in Mathematics, Commerce, or a related subject and a pass in English or Kiswahili.
A-level Certificate with at least one principal pass.
KCSE C- or KCE Division III with a professional certificate from a recognized institution.
EXAMINATION REGULATIONS

Examinations will be administered and governed by the general examination rules of Brimur College and will follow both ProctorU (online) and offline proctoring options. For the award of the Diploma in Business Administration, students must pass all course units. Each unit will be assessed through:

A two-hour written exam at the end of each semester (70% of the final grade).
Continuous coursework assessments, including assignments and tests (30% of the final grade).
The pass mark is 40%.
PROJECT

The research project will be graded out of 100%, and a pass requires at least 40%. Students who do not pass may redo their project up to three times, based on approval from the board of examiners.

EXEMPTIONS

Applicants who have completed equivalent courses from other recognized institutions may be exempted from up to one-third of the courses offered in the diploma. Formal applications for exemption must include official transcripts and detailed course descriptions.

CLASSIFICATION OF THE DIPLOMA

The final classification of the Diploma in Business Administration will be based on the average marks obtained in all course units:

Distinction: 70% and above
Credit: 56% to 69%
Pass: 40% to 55%
Fail: Below 40%
